Stephen Portlock – Company Director
Stephen established Franks Portlock with Phil Franks in 2006. As company director, Stephen is responsible for allocating and coordinating the work undertaken by Franks Portlock.
Prior to Franks Portlock, Stephen worked at Ensecon Laboratories where he began as a survey analyst before being promoted to regional manager and then operations manager.

Phil Franks – Technical Director
Phil established the company with Stephen Portlock in 2006. As well as being responsible for Franks Portlock’s technical operations, Phil works on business development, and oversees marketing and sales activity. He has also recently established the company’s research and development division.
Prior to founding Franks Portlock, Phil worked at Ensecon Laboratories as a quality manager for four years and within the wider environmental testing field prior to that. He holds an Honours Degree in Environmental Analysis from Huddersfield University.

James New – Regional Manager/ Sellafield Site Manager
James has worked for Franks Portlock since March 2010, when he joined the company as a quality manager. As regional manager/ Sellafield site manager he is responsible for overseeing the work Franks Portlock conducts at the Sellafield nuclear site. This includes site management; contract and commercial management for the Sellafield Asbestos Analysis Contract; business development, and management of the analytical and survey project works for the chemical and energy sectors.
James works at the forefront of developments and improvements in the asbestos management sector.
Prior to his role at Franks Portlock, James has eight years experience carrying out asbestos surveys. testing and project management.

James Brown – Scotland Regional Manager
James began working for Franks Portlock in 2017 as an Asbestos Surveyor/Analyst and was promoted to Regional Manager in 2018 with responsibilities to manage the team and service delivery to our clients throughout Scotland.
He works on developing relationships with new and existing clients and takes a hands on role in overseeing the completion of projects and site works, while directing the running of the office.
James is an experienced Manager with 8 years’ experience within the industry within various Asbestos Consultant and Managing positions.

Gordon Cardno – Regional Manager for the South of England
Gordon has worked for Franks Portlock since 2008. Initially working in a consultancy role for the business, Gordon is now regional manager for the South of England and is responsible for managing the team and overseeing all projects in this region. With over 15 years’ experience in the asbestos industry, Gordon previously worked as the South East regional manager for Bodycote Ensecon. Prior to this, Gordon worked in the water industry.
Asbestos accreditations/industry qualifications: S301, P402. Gordon also has chartered status as a water and environmental manager (MCIWEM C.WEM)
Lawrence Clack – Commercial Manager
Lawrence joined Franks Portlock in 2017. In his role as commercial manager, he is responsible for business growth – both financially and expanding the company’s portfolio of services.
He also works with current and potential clients, helping to identify their needs and ensuring they are met, as well as identifying new business leads and working with teams across the business to complete tender applications.
Lawrence has worked in the asbestos industry for 13 years in various analyst, project management, quality assurance and senior management positions and brings a wealth of industry experience to the team.

Nicola Warburton – Quality & Environmental Manager
Nicola joined Franks Portlock in 2008 as a lab analyst. She has moved up through the business to become Quality Manager, responsible for the management our company SHEQ systems, as required by the relevant international standards, and adapting them to changes in guidance.
She tightly controls QC schemes and auditing schedules, coordinating the efforts of appropriate staff to ensure that our systems and processes continually and demonstrably improve.
As a vastly experienced bulk analyst for 14 years, she also oversees the technical competency of this element of the business and is responsible for training new lab analysts.

Sharon Warburton – Office Manager
Sharon has worked for Stephen and Phil since 2008 and was their first employee. She started out as a bulk analyst, but as the only person in the office carried out the admin duties while they were out on site working. Over the years Sharon’s role escalated and as the company grew she became more involved in the administration aspects of the role. In 2017 Sharon sat her GCSE Maths, English and IT which she passed alongside acquiring her NVQ level 2 in business Admin.
Sharon was promoted to Office Manager in 2018 with duties involving managing reception, answering the phones, dealing with the clients at all levels, arranging & planning the day to day work of all surveyor/ analysts, raising quotes and costs for clients, raising monthly invoicing and statements and sending these to the clients. Sharon oversees the efficient running of the Sunderland office, in the absence of Stephen and Phil.
Prior to working at Franks Portlock she worked at Ensecon Laboratories as the principle bulk analyst.
